So when do you get rid of the binki...

So I have been debating on when to get rid of Ethan's binki? He had it alot from the time he was born to one, then I took it away and only let him have it at nap time or bed time so that is what we have been doing the last year. He knows it too! He knows he can only have his binki if he is going to sleep, then when he wakes up I make him leave it in his crib, he only has 2 left so if I can't find one of those, like the other night he goes without and yes it was a pain to get him to go to sleep! So he is just over 2 is it time to bite the bullet and chuck it? It's so so so nice to just lie him in his crib for his nap give him his bink and blankie and he goes right to sleep, so it's prob going to be harder for me to get rid of it than it is for him, although he is becoming VERY attached lately so that's why I'm thinking ahhhh throw it away now before it's even worse! So what are your suggestions...

I am in the same boat! Sienna calls them zoeys. I actually just asked my doctor last week what to do, and she said, "just get rid of them." So ya, I think you just have to bite the bullet and suffer through them crying and whining for it. She said it will probably last a week of them doing that, then they will get over it. I am planning on getting rid of Sienna's after we get back from St. George. I didn't want to take it, then be gone. So Monday morning, they are going in the trash!!!!

I'm not really sure what you should do. I don't have binki kids, they like their thumbs! BUT I have heard that you don't want to make them insecure by taking it away too early or in a harsh way. I was also just looking over the last few posts, it looks like you had a great Easter. Ethan is SO cute!

When it was time for Libby's binky to go bye bye, I cut off the end of it, then she didn't want to suck on it anymore, cause it was "broken" she carried it around with her for a while, but then she totally lost interest...it was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and I admit I was the one stalling!

With Liberty, we tried taking it away, several times. Finally, after age 2, we just started clipping little by little off of the nipple of the binki. Amazingly, she would still suck on it. People told us that if you poke a hole in it or clip it, there is no "sucking" power to it. Well, Liberty didn't care, she still sucked on it. BUT... finally, when there was nothing left of the nipple, she gave up and would just hold it at night. Finally, she lost it and the first few nights were kind of dramatic, but she got over it. I think the gradual working into not having it, by snipping the nipple, helped. GOOD LUCK! Those days are SO not fun!

We told Kelly that swipper swipped it! It worked! She still cried alot but she knew where it went it didn't just disappear. She only had her's in her crib too for about a year. I took her in for a well-baby check up when she was a little over two and the doctor said it would start to do permanent damage to there teeth after two. The longer you wait the harder it will be for them. It was the same when I stopped nursing Kai the doctor said the longer you wait it becomes harder and harder to take it away! It's only bad for about a week then your done with it and they don't remember they loved it.

Tough times. We had thumbs at our house but I like the sounds of clipping the end off the binki. Good Luck!!

p.s. when I saw your title I thought it said bikini...hmmm.

i took brys away at 18 months cause everyone told me the older they get the harder it is to get rid of! but i started with her only having it in bed. then one day i just went down to night time, then a couple days later i took it completely away..i just kept her up a little later so she was extra tired. she actually never asked for it or whined about it. so just gradually do it! but there is nothing more annoying to me then seeing a 3 year old with a bink!!

I have seen on some of those Nanny 911 shows that some times they try doing it in a way were they are telling the kids to give them to binki fairies or something like that. But I dont think that will work. Cause once they are attached it is hard for them to give it up. Sometimes the clipping the binki doesnt work either cause you saw how rylee was with that so I say just take it away. But it is up too you.
